Quick answer
The Scale.gg App Builder (part of Scale Plus Pro Max) lets you build your own app without code by describing what you need in plain English. The assistant creates screens, logic and database tables, and the preview beside the chat is the real running app, not a mock-up. Every new app starts with sign-in, its own database, email, file uploads and payments. You edit by chat, by clicking the canvas, or in code; undo and history keep you safe; one click can send an error to the assistant; and one button publishes to a hosted address (or your own domain) without a failed publish replacing the live app.
Key takeaways
- Describe the app in plain English and get a working tool, not a wireframe
- Built-in sign-in, database, email, uploads and Stripe payments
- Three edit modes: chat, canvas restyle, or code
- Undo and history for every change you or the assistant make
- Test and live databases so experiments never touch customers
- GitHub sync, zip download and one-button publish with your own domain option
- Use App Builder for signed-in tools; use Page Builder for landing pages

You have an idea for a tool your business needs: a client portal, a booking system or an internal tracker. Hiring a developer usually means weeks of setup before anyone can click through a real screen.
In our latest video we showed how the Scale.gg App Builder turns a plain-English description into a working app you can use and publish. Our earlier guide, Scale.gg App Builder: Prompt to Working App With PostgreSQL, focused on the database and publishing stack. This article is for non-developers: when App Builder beats Page Builder, how the live preview works, and how to change an app safely without losing progress.

What this video covers: In our latest video we show how to build your own app without code with Scale.gg App Builder: plain-English briefs, a real running preview, built-in auth and payments, chat/canvas/code editing, undo and history, test vs live data, GitHub and zip export, safe publishing and when to use Page Builder instead.

What is the Scale.gg no-code app builder for?
App Builder is part of Scale Plus Pro Max. Its pitch in our video is simple: software made for the way your business works, without hiring a developer.
Typical first projects are tools people sign into and that save data: client portals, booking tools and internal trackers. That is different from a marketing landing page, which is why Scale.gg also has Page Builder.
How do you go from a plain-English brief to a running app?
You give the app a name and say what it should do in plain English. The assistant builds the screens, the logic and the database tables.
The important claim from our video: the preview beside the chat is the real running app. You click through it the way your users will. That closes the gap between a design mock-up and something you can actually test.
💡 Tip: Name the users and the main jobs in your first sentence: “Client portal where clients log in, upload files and see invoice status.” Clear nouns give the assistant clearer screens and tables.
What is already built into every new app?
Every new app starts with the plumbing already in place:
- Sign-in for users
- Its own database
- Email once you add a Resend key
- File uploads
- Stripe payments once you add your Stripe key, with money going to your own account
You are not wiring auth and payments from scratch before you can try the idea. Keys go in when you are ready; the structure is already there.
⚠️ Warning: Never paste live API keys into the chat. Add Resend and Stripe keys in the secrets area, and keep Stripe in test mode until checkout works end to end.
What are the three ways to change your app?
Our video shows three ways to change the app:
| Method | Best for |
|---|---|
| Describe it in chat | New screens, logic and bigger changes |
| Click an element on the canvas | Restyling layout and look without rewriting the brief |
| Open the code | Precise edits when you (or a helper) want direct control |
Every change, yours or the assistant's, can be undone, and history lets you go back to an earlier point. When a screen errors, one click on Fix this sends the error straight to the assistant.
How do test and live databases protect customer data?
Each app has two databases: test data while you build, and live data for real use. Experiments never touch your customers' records.
The data tab lets you look without breaking things: search any table and export it as a CSV. That is enough for a non-developer to spot-check records before go-live.

How do GitHub sync, zip export and publishing work?
Connect GitHub to keep each app's code in a private repository. You push a copy and pull changes back; nothing is merged behind your back.
Each app is a standard Next.js application, and you can download all of its code as a zip. When it is ready, one button publishes it to its own address with hosting included. You can connect your own domain.
A failed publish never replaces the live app. The deployments tab shows why it failed, so a bad build does not take down what customers are already using.
When should you use App Builder instead of Page Builder?
Scale.gg draws a clear line:
- Page Builder — landing pages and websites
- App Builder — tools people sign into with saved data
If the job is a sales page, use Page Builder. If clients need accounts, records and ongoing use, that is App Builder. Mixing those goals in one tool usually creates a bloated page or a weak app.
How should a non-developer build a first business app?
Here is how we would run a first no-code build as a non-developer:
- Pick one small tool with a clear user and one main job (for example, a simple client file portal).
- Describe it in plain English: who signs in, what they submit, what they see.
- Click through the real preview as that user before you add polish.
- Refine with chat for logic and canvas for styling; use undo if a change goes sideways.
- Stay on the test database; export a CSV to spot-check records.
- Add Resend/Stripe keys only when needed; keep payments in test mode.
- Publish when the happy path works; if publish fails, read the deployments tab and fix before retrying.

Frequently asked questions
Can I really build an app without writing code?
Yes for many business tools. You describe the app in plain English; the assistant builds screens, logic and tables. You can still open the code if you want, but it is optional.
Is the preview a mock-up?
No. Our video shows the preview beside the chat as the real running app that you click through as users will.
How do payments and email work?
Email works once you add a Resend key. Stripe payments work once you add your Stripe key, with money going to your own account.
What if the assistant breaks a screen?
Use undo or history to go back, or click Fix this to send the error to the assistant.
Will a failed publish wipe my live app?
No. A failed publish never replaces the live app; the deployments tab shows why it failed.
How is this different from your earlier App Builder article?
Our PostgreSQL-focused guide covers the database and stack in depth. This article focuses on the no-code path for non-developers: live preview, edit modes, App Builder vs Page Builder and safe refinement.
The bottom line
If you need a tool people sign into, the Scale.gg App Builder lets you build your own app without code: describe it, click through a real preview, refine with chat or canvas, keep test data separate, and publish without a failed build replacing production. Start with one small business tool, stay on the test database, and only then connect your domain and live keys.
